UCU Expands Membership Opportunities

ORONO, Maine (January 18, 2024) – University Credit Union (UCU) has recently taken steps to amplify membership opportunities for Mainers across the state. In addition to its longstanding relationship with the University of Maine System, other groups, and surrounding communities covering Portland to Presque Isle, UCU is expanding its membership opportunities with a community charter. This allows the credit union to continue to grow and provide services to more individuals and businesses across the state.

As a community-chartered credit union, UCU can embrace more of Maine – the following counties are now part of the UCU field of membership: Androscoggin, Cumberland, Franklin, Hancock, Kennebec, Knox, Oxford, Penobscot, Somerset, Waldo, and Washington. These communities are in addition to the groups that UCU currently serves, including University of Maine System, Maine Maritime Academy, The Landing School, Northeast Technical Institute, and the Maine Consumer Council, a chapter of the American Consumer Council. This expansion allows UCU to be well-positioned to provide greater access to financial services and resources to more Mainers, supporting its people helping people philosophy.

“With the addition of these counties, we welcome more Mainers to experience UCU, and how we engage in a variety of ways to best serve our members and the greater community. To us, that means more than our product and service offerings, it’s how we care for our members each day and support their financial needs,” said Renee Ouellette, President and CEO of UCU.

Focusing on “How do UCU” as its tagline, the credit union meets Mainers where they are with the best banking experience that suits them as unique individuals. This means something different to each person and is fostered by UCU’s depth of products and services to suit each stage of life. UCU’s purpose encompasses its passion for the communities it serves and dedication to financial well-being for people throughout Maine. To learn more about UCU and its offerings visit ucumaine.com.
