UCU Celebrates Longtime Board Member Carolyn Cheney

Cheney retired from the UCU board after 18 years of service

May 28, 2026 - In celebration of Carolyn Cheney’s years of dedicated service to UCU, a bench was dedicated on her behalf at the Central Aroostook Humane Society during a ceremony honoring her commitment to both organizations on May 22. The event was attended by Carolyn, her family and friends, UCU team members and others she has impacted throughout the Presque Isle community. “Carolyn’s Bench” honors her lasting impact and years of service to both UCU and Central Aroostook Humane Society, two organizations that are especially meaningful to her.

With her recent retirement from the UCU Board of Directors, Cheney closes a chapter marked by decades of service and commitment. She first volunteered during the credit union’s early years as a campus representative and later joined the Board in 2007, where she served for 18 years. In total, her involvement with UCU spanned 50 years. During her time on the Board, Cheney served as Board Secretary and on the Audit Committee.

“Honoring Carolyn with a bench dedication at the Central Aroostook Humane Society was a meaningful way to show our appreciation for the many lives she touched during her years with the credit union,” said UCU President/CEO Renee Ouellette. “On behalf of UCU, I want to thank Carolyn for her years of service and many contributions she made to the credit union and our communities.”
