Celebrate ICU Day With Us!
On October 16, 2025 credit unions around the world will celebrate International Credit Union Day (ICU Day) — a day to recognize what makes credit unions unique and the difference they make in people’s lives.
Join us on October 16 as we celebrate International Credit Union Day in our branches with some fall treats!
The Theme This Year: Cooperation For a Prosperous World
Credit Unions are united in their cooperative mission to bring people together and lift them up so that they can follow their passions and realize their dreams. Prosperity is something we build together, and each conversation, each connection, each interaction – it’s all part of something bigger.
For UCU, ICU Day is more than just a global celebration. It’s a reminder of why we exist: to put people over profit, to invest in our members, and to strengthen the local communities in Maine we call home.

What Makes Credit Unions Different?
When you choose a credit union, you’re choosing a financial partner that works for U — not for Wall Street. Here’s how credit unions are different than banks:
- You’re an owner. As a member of a credit union, you’re part of a not-for-profit cooperative organization. Your voice affects the strategic direction of the credit union, not shareholders.
- Profits go back to U. We reinvest in our members and communities with better rates, fewer fees, and community support.
- Our mission is people-first. We’re not here to generate profits for shareholders. We’re here to help U succeed.
