UCU Celebrates National Volunteer Week

ORONO, Maine (April 22, 2025) – For National Volunteer Week, the UCU team celebrated volunteerism in a variety of ways. On Patriot’s Day, the UCU team dedicated time to impact communities across Maine with their credit union-wide Here for U Day of Service. In its third year, the day of service offers time to learn about local volunteer opportunities with a variety of organizations, hearing from peers about their volunteer experiences throughout the past year, and provides dedicated time to get out into our communities and volunteer. Driven by the credit union philosophy of people helping people, the credit union staff supported projects throughout the state with a variety of organizations.

During the monthly UCU board meeting, the UCU volunteer board members were celebrated and recognized for their dedication, commitment, and time volunteered with the credit union. The board members spend many hours each month dedicated to the credit union and the credit union movement, we applaud and support their volunteerism.

Additional community impact from UCU team members include participating in volunteer board activities with community organizations such as United Way and local chambers, presenting checks to local food pantries from our Ending Hunger fundraising, and supporting students through our JMG partnership and the career exploration program among others.

“Coming together as a team allows us to collectively share our purpose and support our neighbors with this dedicated service project,” said Renee Ouellette, President and CEO of UCU. “Our employees look forward to our Here for U Day of Service to give back and make a difference alongside their peers and create connections together. When we work together, great things happen. The impact of the day of service goes far beyond this one event and inspires us all to volunteer and impact our communities throughout the year.”
