This is most typically done as a cash sale, where the buyer is paying cash for property; likely a transaction with little due diligence such as a title search or survey and without a lender present. In this scenario, the buyer is the one experiencing fraud by paying someone for a property that they do not have the right to sell.

Monitor your property

There are ways to monitor your property to help prevent it entering a fraudulent transaction:

  • If you own a lot or vacant location, check on it regularly or have neighbors check on it.
  • Look for real estate signs posted on your property for example.
